Peggy Gou remixes Madonna ‘I Feel So Free’ from upcoming ‘Confessions II’ album: Listen

Peggy Gou has remixed Madonna’s ‘I Feel So Free’. The reinterpretation drops the hypnotic original mix in favor of a pace-y, synth-heavy nu-disco take that nods to classic 1990s dance, contrasting the original’s interpolation of Lil’ Louis house landmark ‘French Kiss’.

The track is the first single from Madonna’s upcoming ‘Confessions II’ album, slated for release on July 3. Stuart Price produced both ‘Confessions II’ and its 2005 predecessor ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor’. The Korean producer joins a circle of contemporary dance names being pulled into the Confessions II rollout.

Then on the rollout side, the Peggy Gou remix premiered last month on LGBTQ+ platform Pride Radio before featuring in Madonna’s surprise cameo during Sabrina Carpenter’s Coachella set. Madonna also played the track during a surprise show at West Hollywood queer venue The Abbey, with The xx’s Romy, Addison Rae, Mez Monty, and Stuart Price all in attendance for the Club Confessions Los Angeles event.

“People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong,” Madonna said of the album. “The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: a ritualistic space where movement replaces language. We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies. These are things that we’ve been doing for thousands of years — they really are spiritual practices.”

Also, Madonna framed the album around club ritual and altered consciousness. “To rave is an art,” she added. “It’s about pushing your limits and connecting to a community of like-minded people.
