Armin van Buuren has officially marked 25 years of A State of Trance. On June 1, the Dutch trance icon shared an emotional anniversary post celebrating exactly a quarter century since the very first ASOT episode aired in 2001.

“25 years of @asotlive. June 1st, 2001 the first episode of @asotlive aired. I never could have imagined it would grow into what it is today, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything it has become,” Armin van Buuren wrote on Instagram.

Crucially, the show has racked up 1280 episodes. “I started it simply to share my music with the world, not knowing where the journey would take us,” he added. “I thought we’d stop after 500.”

Notably, A State of Trance has expanded from radio into a global festival series. As a result, ASOT events now run worldwide. Furthermore, the brand has launched the ASOT 2026 anniversary album and a Drumsheds London edition.

Meanwhile, Ruben de Ronde, Armin‘s long-time on-air partner, posted his own tribute. “25 years of A State of Trance. 25 years wow!” he wrote. “I joined the team in the beginning of 2007, starting with a small role behind the scenes. Thank you @arminvanbuuren for everything you did, are doing and will do!”

Indeed, Armin closed his post with thanks to the team and the audience. Equally, the ASOT community is now bracing for a milestone summer of celebrations across the globe. In short, A State of Trance keeps building its place at the centre of trance.
