Bootshaus Cologne unveils world-first L-Acoustics 360° DJ spatial audio system
Bootshaus Cologne is opening a new chapter in its history. The multiple-award-winning club, recognised as Germany’s best and one of the best in the world, has installed the new L-Acoustics DJ 360° Spatial Audio system, becoming one of the first venues globally to launch the technology.
Crucially, the install marks a world first for the format. From June 5th, 2026, guests and artists at the Bootshaus Main Floor experience a fully immersive, three-dimensional sound environment powered by L-Acoustics DJ. As a result, the room now sits at the bleeding edge of what a club PA can do.
Notably, the new system doesn’t replace anything — it extends. The 360° rig complements the existing L-Acoustics A Series sound system installed in 2024, layering spatial movement on top of a club-tested foundation. Furthermore, it takes the audio experience at Bootshaus to a level the venue calls “previously unattainable.”
How the L-Acoustics 360° DJ system works
Meanwhile, the technology behind it is the real shift. Using L-Acoustics‘ proprietary Source Separate technology, conventional stereo audio material is split in real time into multiple discrete sound sources and spatially positioned throughout the entire venue. Indeed, that means beats, basslines, melodies and vocals move through the space, enveloping the audience and creating a sonic experience that is not only heard but physically felt.
Equally important, the system integrates seamlessly into existing DJ setups without altering established workflows. DJs can control the immersive experience themselves or collaborate with a dedicated spatial audio engineer. The intuitive interface allows sounds to be dynamically placed and moved through the space without requiring extensive technical knowledge.
Furthermore, the spec is serious. The system features L-Acoustics loudspeakers, amplified controllers, the L-ISA Processor II and P1 Networked Audio Processor, combined with L-ISA Controller, the L-Acoustics DJ App, LA Network Manager and Soundvision software.
The vision behind the upgrade
Crucially, the install reads as a statement of intent. “Sound has always been at the heart of what we do. With the L-Acoustics DJ installation, we are taking the next consistent step and redefining what a club experience can mean today,” said Tom V. Thomas, Managing Director of Bootshaus Cologne GmbH. “We are proud to offer our guests and the artists who perform here an experience that has not existed in this form before.”
Meanwhile, the rollout doubles as a celebration. The new 360° experience will be unveiled across two very special nights as part of Bootshaus‘ 22nd anniversary: Holy Priest on June 5th and Don Diablo on June 12th. Both artists are among the first to take their DJ sets to a whole new level using the spatial audio technology.
The wider Bootshaus chapter – and the no-phone philosophy
Notably, the 360° install fits a broader experiential strategy. Bootshaus has been one of the loudest voices in the conversation around presence on the dancefloor, sitting alongside venues like Berghain in operating a strict no-phone policy. Indeed, the club places stickers over phone cameras at the door so that what happens inside stays inside.
Equally, the thinking behind that policy aligns with the 360° install. Both are about pulling attention back into the room, away from the screen, and into a shared physical moment. Furthermore, in a year where industry data has shown phone-free events growing 567% year on year, Bootshaus‘ position looks less like a quirk and more like a blueprint.
Still, the bigger picture is consistency. Following the complete audio upgrade with the L-Acoustics A Series system in 2024, the 360° install marks another statement for innovation and quality. For over 20 years Bootshaus has been one of the most important institutions of electronic music culture in Germany, welcoming more than 200,000 visitors per year, with the group also home to Nibirii Festival and Blacklist Festival.
In short, the L-Acoustics 360° launch is more than a tech upgrade. It is a statement about where Bootshaus wants the club experience to go next.
