Cara Delevingne releases new single ‘Need It’ co-written with Fiona Apple

Cara Delevingne has just released her brand-new single ‘Need It’ via Warner Records. The British model-turned-musician built the track around a deeply collaborative writing room, with longtime friend and mentor Fiona Apple serving as a co-writer and BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Charli xcx) co-producing alongside her. The track is described by the British artist as a “dance banger”.

The full credits on ‘Need It’ read like a dream collaboration sheet. The track was written by the British artist alongside Tommy King, Victoria Ryann Zaro, Fiona Apple, Amelia Meath and Brandon Joyner Burton. The co-production work between the British model and BJ Burton sits at the heart of the cut.

The British artist’s collaboration with Fiona Apple is rooted in a long-standing creative friendship. The two have known each other for years, and the British model sang backing vocals on the American singer-songwriter’s acclaimed 2020 album ‘Fetch the Bolt Cutters’. The British star opened up about the process behind their joint writing room.

The new single arrives on the heels of the British artist’s recent musical launch, anchored by the two interconnected tracks ‘I Forgot’ and ‘Out of My Head’. Released last month, the pair was met with strong critical reception. Rolling Stone called them “ambitious,” NYLON said they were “unlike anything else you’ll hear this year” and The Guardian went with “brilliant.” Together, the two tracks deliver a seven-minute dive into the British artist’s dynamic sound, paired with a short film directed by Emmy winner Jessica Lee Gagné (Severance). Vogue described the visuals as “surreal and cinematic… a bold swing combining her vulnerable lyrics with a distorted electronic feel.”

The British artist has been on the road since the start of the month, with shows across Europe, the UK and the US. The headline run of her debut tour wraps tonight in Brooklyn for her second sold-out show in the city. She also delivered her first festival appearance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and is set to play All Things Go NYC plus the Buenos Aires and São Paulo editions of Primavera Sound across the next few months.

Most importantly, the British star’s debut album is now officially set to follow in late summer 2026. Between the long-form rollout, the dance-leaning direction of ‘Need It’, the BJ Burton co-production credit and the Fiona Apple co-write, the British artist is positioning her debut as one of the most stylistically ambitious crossover pop projects of the second half of the year.
