An investigation is underway following the death of an attendee at Klangkuenstler's recent concert in Mumbai. The tragic incident took place at the city's NSCI Dome on Saturday night, with police now examining the circumstances surrounding the case.
The 28-year-old law student, identified as Vrushabh Gangurde, was attending the German DJ’s concert when he reportedly began feeling unwell and lost consciousness inside the venue. He was rushed to the nearby Breach Candy Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
According to reports, Gangurde was attending the concert with a friend, who was also hospitalised following medical complications and is currently in stable condition. Officials have indicated that both had consumed excessive alcohol and were in an intoxicated state at the concert.
Police have registered an Accidental Death Report and launched an investigation into the circumstances. Preliminary findings have pointed toward a possible heart attack as a cause, though authorities are awaiting post-mortem and forensic reports before reaching a final determination. Investigators have stated that, at this stage, no evidence pointing to a drug overdose has been found.
A police official confirmed: “Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is underway. We are examining CCTV footage from inside the venue and other electronic evidence.”
The Klangkuenstler concert, organised by Sunburn, had brought his global Outworld concept to Mumbai. Several attendees pointed to strict security measures at the concert, including security seals placed over mobile phone cameras, physical frisking at the venue entrance and a no-smoking policy throughout the venue.
The incident comes two months after two management students died following a suspected drug overdose at a techno music event at the NESCO Centre in Mumbai’s Goregaon. Those deaths sparked wider conversations around safety at large-scale music events in Mumbai, leading to the cancellation of several festivals and concerts, as well as heightened scrutiny and security measures across the city.
