AlphaTheta XDJ-AN, a two-channel all-in-one built to bridge home and club DJing

AlphaTheta has unveiled the XDJ-AN, a new two-channel all-in-one system aimed at DJs making the transition from controllers to club-standard gear. Priced at $1,199, it supports multiple music sources including USB drives, mobile DJ apps, laptop software and streaming services.

The gap between learning on a controller at home and stepping up to a CDJ/DJM setup in a club has always been a friction point for upcoming DJs. The XDJ-AN is AlphaTheta’s attempt to close that gap, with a layout modelled directly on the CDJ-3000X and DJM series so that time spent on the unit translates more directly to a professional booth environment.

Club-standard layout

The unit’s controls are mapped to mirror the CDJ and DJM workflow that most clubs run, which is the core practical proposition here. Rather than relearning muscle memory when stepping into a venue, players who have put time in on the XDJ-AN should find the transition significantly smoother according to AlphaTheta.

Streaming and cloud playback

The XDJ-AN supports StreamingDirectPlay, allowing direct access to tracks from Apple Music, Beatport Streaming and TIDAL without needing to import them into a local library first. Alongside this, rekordbox Cloud Library Sync lets users prepare their library and cue points on desktop and pull them down to the unit via CloudDirectPlay. Edits made on the hardware, including hot cues and playlist changes, sync back to the cloud automatically.

Software and source compatibility

On the software side, the XDJ-AN works with rekordbox and djay Pro via laptop, as well as rekordbox for iOS and djay for iOS directly over a mobile connection. USB drive playback is supported via a single USB Type-C slot. For those who want to record or broadcast sets, the unit is also compatible with the DJM-REC app. Serato DJ Lite is supported for laptop use as well.

SonicLink wireless monitoring

A built-in SonicLink transmitter allows the XDJ-AN to pair wirelessly with compatible headphones for cueing, removing the need for a physical headphone cable. The unit also offers Bluetooth as both an input and output, XLR outputs for professional speaker connections and RCA for broader compatibility.

How it compares to the XDJ-AZ

The obvious point of comparison in AlphaTheta’s own lineup is the XDJ-AZ, the flagship four-channel all-in-one. The differences make the positioning of the AN fairly clear. The AZ runs four channels across four decks with a 10.1-inch display and 206mm jog wheels that are closer in size to CDJ standard. It weighs 13.5kg and adds LAN connectivity for full PRO DJ LINK support, two USB Type-A slots and playlist editing directly on the unit.

The XDJ-AN by contrast is 5.2kg with a 7-inch display and 132mm jog wheels, and connects over Wi-Fi only with no LAN port and no PRO DJ LINK BRIDGE support. What it adds over the AZ is Bluetooth output, which the AZ lacks, and the more compact form factor makes it a realistic option for home setups or smaller venue installs where the AZ would be overkill. At $1,199 it sits at a considerably lower price point, which is the main reason to choose it over the AZ rather than any feature advantage.
