The 'Missing' remix saga just took its most beautiful turn yet. John Summit performed his orchestral rework of Everything But The Girl's 'Missing' live for the first time during his own Experts Only event at Tofte Manor, with a live orchestra backing him for a properly cinematic moment. Footage from the show is spreading fast, and it lands right in the middle of one of the biggest ongoing conversations in dance music.

The context matters. Earlier this month, John Summit publicly accused BBC Radio 1 tastemaker Pete Tong of taking a remix the pair had been working on together and reworking it into a separate collaboration with Dutch house heavyweight Franky Rizardo. Rizardo subsequently withdrew from the release, citing personal values. Days later, Tong publicly responded with a video interview at the Pete Tong DJ Academy, sharing a May 2026 proposal document and explaining that both a Franky mix and a John Summit mix had always been in the plan, with Everything But The Girl’s Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt approving the orchestral arrangement for his winter Ibiza Classics tour.

Tong closed his response with, “If you’ve got a problem, pick up the phone. I’ve tried to call John, I’ve tried to text him.” John Summit‘s Tofte Manor performance is the first time he has publicly played his own version of the record since the exchange, and the visual of the full orchestra behind him lands as its own kind of statement. Whether the two sides speak in private remains to be seen. What is clear is that ‘Missing’ is now one of the most talked-about records of the summer.
