Native Instruments launches a $99 supersaw synth with A.G. Cook

Super*Saw features two independent 8-voice stacked saw oscillator banks. A 4-corner X/Y Morpher captures four distinct patch states and allows continuous interpolation between them. Chord, scale and quantize tools sit alongside a controlled off-grid deviation setting for intentional dissonance. Per-voice glide and offset controls handle stereo motion and liquid transitions. Built-in chorus, delay and reverb round out the signal chain alongside LP, BP and HP filters at 2-pole and 4-pole slopes. Mono and poly modes cover leads, basses, stacks and chords without switching instruments.

The supersaw has been a defining texture in electronic music for decades, cycling in and out of mainstream in waves. Its current resurgence in hyperpop makes this release well-timed. Cook is among the producers who have pushed the sound furthest, developing something that is immediately recognizable across his own releases and collaborations.

Super*Saw grew out of a two-year collaboration between Cook and Native Instruments’ design team, working directly from Cook’s own patches and production sessions. His supersaw sound runs through some of modern pop’s most recognizable textures, including his work with Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Beyoncé and Oklou.

“I’ve always been interested in sounds that can flip between harsh and beautiful,” Cook said. “We used a lot of my own experiments as a starting point, but didn’t stop until it felt like its own instrument, with its own unpredictable musical outcomes. I’ve used it in countless sessions while developing the plugin and haven’t ended up making the same thing twice.”

The preset library covers blissed-out harmonies, metallic dissonance, ravey leads and what the company describes as impossible glides. The instrument integrates with Komplete Kontrol keyboards and Maschine.
