The centrepiece is a 3LP clear-vinyl edition and a matching 3CD edition that gather the ‘Back To Black’ era in one definitive package. Notably, the third disc features a full live performance from Paradiso, Amsterdam, recorded on 8 February 2007 during the tour, never before released on vinyl or streaming in full.
Meanwhile, the deluxe suite adds four unreleased demos, rare B-sides and never-before-seen photos by original album photographers Mischa Richter and Alex Lake. Producers and friends Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi contribute new liner notes. “It’s crazy that six songs made in a fit of furious musical infatuation would matter so deeply to so many people twenty years later,” Ronson reflects. Remi adds: “Amy was one of one. One-of-a-kind artist. One-of-a-kind spirit. One-of-a-kind soul.”
Crucially, the anniversary underlines the album’s staggering legacy. ‘Back To Black’ reached No. 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart, became the best-selling album of 2007 and has now sold over 4.5 million copies in the UK for a 15x Platinum certification. Beyond that, it swept five Grammys, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Rehab’, and has passed 25 million copies sold worldwide. Similar to fellow legacy anniversary campaigns landing this year, The Beatles’ Rubber Soul Special Edition being one, the reissue lifts the curtain on the album’s history.
Still, the format list goes further. A limited 1LP ‘Chalkboard Marble’ colour variant sits alongside a webstore-exclusive 1LP Zoetrope vinyl featuring moving footage of Amy Winehouse, and an Amazon-exclusive 1CD rounds out the offering.
