Armand Van Helden has confirmed his Electric Picnic set was cancelled after organisers shut the stage due to crowd safety concerns.
“Gutted about the Electric Picnic Ireland set cancellation last night, but the health and well being of all in attendance always comes first,” Van Helden wrote on Instagram. “I was backstage about to come on after Kilimanjaro and the stage was closed right before his last song due to crowd safety concerns. Thank you for your understanding and hope to be back soon. AVH.”
Notably, the Electric Picnic incident marks another example of a UK-and-Ireland festival stage struggling to contain the growing appetite for dance music. Electric Picnic, held annually at Stradbally Estate, County Laois, remains one of Ireland’s most attended festivals, drawing tens of thousands each summer.
Meanwhile, the Armand Van Helden Electric Picnic cancellation lands the same weekend that Prospa’s Reading Festival set was cancelled after crowds outside the Warehouse stage forced its closure. Beyond that, both cases reopen the wider industry conversation about dance music tent capacities at multi-genre festivals.
Armand Van Helden Electric Picnic statement puts safety first while acknowledging the frustration on both sides. In turn, the house pioneer’s next steps are expected to include additional European dates as his 2026 touring schedule continues.
