Creamfields drug seizure — huge stashes of illegal drugs have been discovered buried underground at the festival site. Notably, the discovery came days before the event was due to open its gates on Thursday. Consequently, the Creamfields drug seizure puts one of the UK's biggest dance weekends under a serious safety spotlight.
Cheshire Police confirmed the finds during a pre-event search of the Daresbury grounds. Furthermore, officers dug up around 204 canisters of nitrous oxide, alongside large bags containing ecstasy, MDMA and ketamine tablets. Meanwhile, more than 80,000 music fans are expected on site across the weekend.
“Every year, we counter a number of brazen individuals who think they can outsmart us by concealing drugs from view or burying them at the site months in advance,” Supt Andy Blizard said. In turn, the finds mirror a wider pattern across UK festival policing this summer.
The pre-event operation follows a difficult season for UK dance events. Recently, WRY covered the 32-month jail sentence handed to a Creamfields drug smuggler last month. The seized items are now in police storage as evidence. Meanwhile, security operations at the venue continue to ramp up ahead of the gates opening. The Daresbury site will host headliners across all the main dance-music genres this weekend.
