Jan Wayne is stepping away. The veteran German DJ and producer has officially announced his retirement from regular DJ performances at the end of 2027. Notably, that will mark exactly 35 years behind the decks, having started his journey in 1992. Furthermore, he shared a 10-slide statement on Instagram walking through the decision in detail.
“Ultimately, I have made my decision,” Jan Wayne wrote. “At the end of 2027, I will step away from regular DJ performances. Until then, I will continue to perform at selected events.”
The reasoning is a mix of personal fatigue and industry frustration. “After all these years, I have become tired,” he shared. “Travel may be more comfortable today, but spending most of a weekend on the road for only a short time on stage is still exhausting. It also means missing precious time with family, friends and the other parts of life that matter.”
Additionally, he addressed the shift in the modern DJ business directly. “Today, social media reach, followers, likes and views often seem to matter more than hits, experience, talent or the ability to connect with a real crowd,” he wrote. “I come from a time when artists and DJs were primarily judged by their music, their performances and the moments they created with the people in front of them. That is still what matters to me.”
Meanwhile, Jan Wayne noted that his recent circuit of revival events had started to feel repetitive. Furthermore, he made clear he has no interest in relaunching under a different style. Beyond that, he thanked his fans directly. “Everyone who bought the records, came to the shows, sang along, danced, travelled to events, sent messages or supported me in any way. You made this journey possible.”
Ultimately, the wind-down is not immediate. “This isn’t an immediate goodbye,” he added in his post. “I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing so many of you again at the upcoming gigs. Let’s share the dancefloor, celebrate the music we love, and make every single remaining night count until the end of 2027.” Notably, he also opened the door for promoters: “Now is the time to plan one of those final regular shows.”
