Laidback Luke is teaching a free Kung Fu class on a New York City rooftop, and the timing is anything but random. The Dutch DJ, producer and former Kung Fu world champion has scheduled the session on the rooftop of Superior Ingredients ahead of his DJ set later that same night on September 6. Notably, entry is free, with fans invited to his self-styled 'Rooftop Dojo' before the show.

Laidback Luke is not new to the martial art. Crucially, he won six medals at the 2017 Kung Fu World Championship, three of them gold. Meanwhile, he has openly blended his martial arts practice with his music career for years. This is not even the first time he has taught a free class before a show, having held a similar session during Miami Music Week that year.

The Labor Day Weekend edition is designed for true beginners. Consequently, Luke promises to tie Kung Fu and raving together by the end. “It’s very similar,” he once said of the connection between teaching Kung Fu and DJing. “You watch the crowd and see what they’re up to. Are they tired? Are they happy? Are they losing focus? And then you switch it up. It’s the same thing I do when playing a set.”

The rooftop class also lands alongside a new music chapter. Recently, Laidback Luke released a new single with GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Bright Lights, ‘HUMAN AGAIN II’. Beyond that, the track arrives nine years after their last collaboration ‘Paradise’. In turn, the NYC show doubles as a live premiere moment.

Tickets for the Superior Ingredients show are on sale now via si-bk.com.
