Massive Attack have been banned from performing in Singapore after displaying a Palestinian flag on stage. Notably, the ban followed the group's concert at The Star Theatre on 29 July 2026. Furthermore, Singapore's regulator IMDA has confirmed it will not approve any future application for the Bristol trip-hop pioneers to perform in the country.
During the performance, both members of the group’s touring lineup, founding members Robert “3D” Del Naja and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall, held up a Palestinian flag on stage. Additionally, one shouted “Free Palestine” during the show. Meanwhile, Singapore bans the open display of all foreign flags, national emblems or banners without a permit.
Singaporean authorities issued “stern warnings” to both band members for breaching licence conditions around political expression and foreign emblems. Furthermore, IMDA has taken the additional step of blocking any future performance applications from the group.
The moment fits squarely inside Massive Attack‘s long track record of political activism. Notably, the Bristol collective has used concerts across decades to highlight conflicts, climate change and human rights issues. Additionally, they have previously spoken out on Palestine at other festival dates in 2026.
