“Aujourd’hui, la scène Hard perd l’un de ses plus grands pionniers,” reads one of the tributes circulating today. Translated: “Today, the Hard scene loses one of its greatest pioneers.” Additionally, the message continues: “Mat Weasel Busters has passed away, leaving an indelible mark on Hardtek, Frenchcore and far beyond. Thank you for the music, the memories and the legacy.”

Longer tributes across the community remembered him as much for the person as for the music. Furthermore, many highlighted his legendary live performances with the Yamaha RS7000, his talent, energy and passion. Beyond that, friends described him as a deeply kind and genuine person who was always smiling and never spoke badly about anyone. Meanwhile, one tribute noted that he had “that rare gift of spreading joy wherever he went.”

The Weasel Busters camp shared their own words. “Words fail us,” they wrote. “Mat wasn’t only an incredible artist and an exceptional Hardtek DJ. Above all, he was a deeply kind and genuine person. His sudden passing has left an immense void.” Additionally, they asked for privacy for his partner Vero, his family and loved ones.

Ultimately, Mat Weasel Busters leaves behind a body of work that helped define the sound of Hardtek and Frenchcore over the last two decades. Furthermore, his legacy sits deep in the DNA of the harder edges of European electronic music. Rest in peace. Follow his page for updates here.
