Notably, the album lands with strong early press. The Times, MOJO and The Standard each gave it four stars, while Rolling Stone praised his live shows as “embodied with the punk energy that led to his band’s early breakthrough.” The record features new single ‘Make It Stop’, also out today, following the previously released ‘Crypto’, ‘What We Got’ and ‘Switch Up’, which landed A-playlisted at BBC Radio 6 Music and, per The Guardian, “soars over its killer bassline.”
Meanwhile, the sound sits in a lane of its own. ‘Thank You’ stacks 13 servings of sonically inventive post-electronic grooves and hypnotic hooks, with Mike D’s unmistakable voice guiding an aural playground that defies clean categorisation.
Crucially, the touring band anchoring the campaign is a family affair. The Mike D 5D lineup features his sons Skyler and Davis Diamond alongside Eddie Ruscha, Will Graefe and Milo Ruscha. The group returns to the UK this autumn, after their debut appearance earlier in the year at North Shields’ King Street Social Club, described by The Guardian as “uproarious fun” and by NME as bouncing “with all the punk energy that made Beastie Boys such a vital crossover act.”
Still, demand tells the story. The UK leg opens on 26 October at Glasgow’s TV Studio (sold out), continues to Manchester’s Albert Hall on 27 October (sold out), and closes at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 28 October. Beyond that, dates continue across Amsterdam, Lille, Cologne, Lausanne, Lyon and Brussels through 5 November. Similar to fellow legacy acts reissuing landmark records this year, including The Beatles’ Rubber Soul Special Edition, Mike D re-enters the release calendar at scale.
