Sasha remixes Danny L Harle’s ‘Raft In The Sea’ feat. Julia Michaels on XL Recordings: Listen

The original was Harle at his most stripped-back. It read as a song of quiet devastation. Swelling synths and open space held it together. Sasha‘s versions restore the scale. However, the melancholy stays intact. He stretches the original across crescendoing builds. Euphoric synth work follows. That sound helped make his name. As a result, the mixes sit naturally alongside ‘Raft In The Sea’‘s parent album ‘Cerulean’. Meanwhile, the mixes have been a fixture of his sets since they were completed.

“Remixing ‘Raft In The Sea’ was a really great experience,” Sasha said. “It was fun to revisit the more trancey end of what I do. All the mixes have been a big part of my sets since we finished them.” Harle added: “Sasha’s music strikes a tone that no one else’s does. I love his style of sparse trance harmony. It gives a sense of restraint and release.”

Sasha‘s catalogue helped define modern club culture. Seminal mix albums include Renaissance: The Mix Collection. He also crafted the Northern Exposure series with John Digweed. He held residencies at Twilo, Space Ibiza and Fabric. The Involver series pushed the artform forward. Studio albums like Airdrawndagger and LUZOSCURA followed. The EP continues a strand from Cerulean. Harle has handed his source material to other artists to reimagine. The longer-form Starlight, Azimuth and Crystalise Divergence projects came first. Those featured Torus, Rachika Nayar and DOSS. Released in February, Cerulean marked his first full-length on XL Recordings. It fused speaker-blowing bass with classical harmonies. The album enlisted an exceptional cast. Dua Lipa, Caroline Polachek, Clairo, PinkPantheress, Oklou, MNEK, Julia Michaels and kacha all appeared. Fellow XL signee Peggy Gou is also delivering a new album era via ‘Wo,man’ with Ayra Starr.
