‘1+1+1’ drives an intimidating, key-shifting EBM bassline over a hyperactive new wave backbeat. It sounds fresh and decidedly analogue at once, sitting somewhere between raw and processed, past and future. Rather than acting as a metronome, the four-on-the-floor kicks arrive to signal the move from mosh pit to dancefloor. ZEP plays the industrial ringmaster, snarling, wailing and shouting with unpredictable urgency. The lyrics hint at a guest list gone wild, while the title suggests a duo greater than the sum of its parts.
ZEP broke out of Rotterdam’s underground, where he built a devoted following through his independently organised FUGAZZI parties. His latest project, ‘NO ENEMIES’, came out via PULSE Records.
For Alex Ridha, the album caps a huge stretch. He toured with Nine Inch Nails and co-produced the TRON: Ares soundtrack, including the GRAMMY-winning ‘As Alive As You Need Me To Be’. The trio then debuted Nine Inch Noize at Coachella before releasing their self-titled album in April. Now ‘7LLVSION’ arrives as his eighth solo album.
The road stays busy too. Dog Blood, his project with Skrillex, plays Portola in San Francisco on September 26, before Boys Noize heads to CRSSD the next day. In October, OAZ takeovers hit London, Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam. November then brings Ultra Mexico City, EDC Orlando and Factory Town in Miami, before a run of Australian festivals over New Year.
