Kazakhstan-born producer Edesta makes his debut today with ‘Maya Maya’, a single that lands at the meeting point between African vocal tradition and 2010s EDM nostalgia. Currently based between Kazakhstan and Southeast Asia, Edesta builds his sound around the euphoric energy of the era that first pulled him into electronic music.

Notably, ‘Maya Maya’ is anchored by captivating Kenyan vocals performed in Kikuyu, layered over euphoric synths, driving drums and melodic elements pulled from the golden era of festival EDM. Think the emotional palette of Swedish House Mafia reimagined with an unexpected cultural centre.

“With ‘Maya Maya’, I wanted to combine the nostalgia of the 2010s EDM sound I grew up loving with something culturally different and unexpected,” Edesta explains. “The Kikuyu vocals immediately gave the track a unique character, and I wanted the production to create that feeling of discovering something familiar, but from a completely different perspective.”

Meanwhile, Edesta arrives with real pedigree. He is a graduate of the Pete Tong DJ & Producer Academy and has already picked up early support from the likes of PARISI, Vicetone and Lucas & Steve, all while developing his own voice across electronic, progressive and pop-influenced territory.

Beyond that, ‘Maya Maya’ is built to move between contexts. The record balances organic vocal warmth with polished electronic production, ready for an open-air summer set, a late-night warehouse, or a packed festival dancefloor. Crucially, it also arrives as the wider progressive EDM revival continues to build momentum across the scene, echoing the recent Cascada return with ‘Alive’. Stream ‘Maya Maya’ now on Spotify.
