The original ‘DNA’ appeared on Empire of the Sun’s 2013 album Ice on the Dune and has since amassed over 70 million global streams, arriving in the wake of the Australian duo’s breakout, ARIA award-winning Walking on a Dream era. Now, more than a decade later, one of the defining producers of new-school house and techno reframes it for the club floor.
Ellum Audio and Lone Romantic label head Maceo Plex has long defined a futuristic, cinematic sound built from bass, breaks and electro, delivering landmark EPs and LPs and playing the world’s best clubs and festivals for three decades. It’s been a particularly busy stretch of 2026: standout sets across Ibiza, a debut on the cult Rekids label with his ‘Monster’ EP and ‘The Plan’ EP on Ellum Audio.
The ‘DNA (Maceo Plex Remix)’ itself is a broody gem — heavy, rolling drums, serious bass weight and subtle vocal fragments teased in the mix as synths build towards a grand release of emotion. The original vocals then arrive and drift above the groove, creating pure dancefloor escape before pulling back to the hypnotic, marching groove that carries dancers home. It’s a classy remix that reframes the original’s cosmic uplift into a more heads-down world of deep techno.
The release also lands as Empire of the Sun stay firmly in the spotlight. In other news, the Aussie duo recently announced Australia and New Zealand 2027 tour dates as part of their Ask That God: Afterlife run, extending the reach of their live show into another chapter.
Empire of the Sun’s ‘DNA (Maceo Plex Remix)’ is out now on Universal Music.
