Mau P has hit back at claims that his latest single was made by someone else. After fans online suggested a Mau P ghost producer was behind ‘Just A Little Bit More’, the Dutch star sat down in his kitchen and walked through exactly how he built the track. “Y’all be talking about some shit like, oh, Maupy is a ghost producer, he didn’t make this himself,” he said at the start of the video. “I’ve been doing this since I was 10. So, y’all just can’t believe that I look cute and I make my own music.”

With a nod to the setting (“if you can’t stand the heat, don’t come into the kitchen with me”), Mau P opened the project and took it apart piece by piece. First came the kick, which he called “snappy as hell”, followed by the drums and snare.

The bassline was made in an emulation of the 303. He wrote two patterns and switched between them, with one moving a semitone up. On the processing side, he described what he called a “pretty basic chain”, using Roar from Ableton to make the sound a little wider. Then came the sample. He made the mid information louder because there was a lot happening in the sides, then added Rvox, a little delay and a little saturation. The vocal chop that runs through the track was built from a “mouth and lips” sound. Mau P couldn’t resist trolling his critics along the way. “And then my ghost producer recorded this guitar,” he joked. Pointing to the track’s famous rave section, he deadpanned that it was just “a little rave generator to generate the rave.”

His closing message was much more direct: “No shortcuts. There’s no shortcuts.”

The comments quickly filled up with support from his peers. Diplo was the most fired up: “F*** em all – the music is yours. Your brand, your brain, your fans, your community. You are the music.” He signed off with a wink of his own: “It is hard out here to be pretty, I feel you.” Several artists pointed back to his Maurice West days, when he was making big-room EDM long before Mau P took over the tech house world. “I knew you back in the Maurice West days,” wrote Ilan Bluestone. “Just tell them to watch that video of you making a banger in an hour. Says it all.” Agents Of Time added: “They don’t know Maurice broooo,” while Hardwell kept it short: “Tell em Mr West!”

Adriatique, meanwhile, were more interested in the set: “Wanna have that kitchen tho.” For a producer who has spent years proving himself in the studio, the Mau P ghost producer talk clearly struck a nerve. His answer was to open up the project file and show his work, which is about as clear as a response gets. Watch the full breakdown below.
