SubmitHub now blocks AI music, and says Spotify made the call for it

SubmitHub has stopped accepting AI music. Any track its detector scores at 85% or higher as AI-generated is now blocked. The company says the policy will cost it around 10% of its revenue.

The reason is Spotify. In August, Spotify began labelling AI Personas and said it would keep them out of editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default. SubmitHub’s position is that selling promotion to music the algorithm will not surface is not a fair trade.

About 11% of tracks uploaded in the last month scored 85% or higher as AI. Those made up 9% of submissions. Their approval rate from curators was 16%, against 31% for everything else.

How the rule works

The cutoff applies to pure and hybrid AI alike. A hybrid score above 85% usually means a track came out of Suno with minor edits after download. Hybrid tracks scoring under 85% still get through, which the company treats as evidence a human was involved.

The score weights the spectral result roughly three to one. Detection runs on SubmitHub’s own tool, which it says a third party rated 99.4% accurate.

There is no appeals process and no workaround. Writing the lyrics or the composition yourself does not exempt a recording. Hot or Not and Meta Ads are not affected.

Spotify has been tightening steadily. It removed 75 million AI spam tracks over the past year and started showing AI credits in song info in April.

The full policy is on SubmitHub’s site.
