Swedish House Mafia have unveiled the music video for ‘Happiness Is So Sad’, and it is streaming first on Spotify for 48 hours. The Happiness Is So Sad music video arrives two months after the song, their collaboration with Lykke Li, landed at the end of July.

The video follows a house party in Guadalajara, Mexico, from start to finish. Rather than relying on one camera crew, it is compiled from footage shot on around 25 different devices across one big night. As a result, it feels fleeting and fragmented, jumping between perspectives as the party builds, peaks and fades.

That approach mirrors the idea at the heart of the song. Our happiest moments can become the hardest to leave behind, precisely because they were never meant to last. Seen through two dozen phones and cameras, the night feels close and already slipping away at the same time.

For now, the video lives on Spotify. Premium subscribers in Spotify’s beta markets can open the app on TV, desktop, iOS or Android, select the song and tap “Switch to video”. The clip then picks up exactly where the track left off, while “Switch to audio” returns to background listening. On mobile, turning the phone to landscape gives the full-screen version.

The song has been part of the trio’s summer from the start. Produced by the band with PARISI and Fred again.., it was co-written with Max Martin and Oscar Holter. They gave it its world live debut when they opened their Ushuaïa Ibiza residency in June. Now the track finally has visuals to match its bittersweet mood.
