Universal Audio has released LUNA 3.0, a major update to its DAW for macOS and Windows. The new version adds faster recording tools, stem separation and several AI-powered music production features.

One of the main additions is LUNA Play, a simplified recording workflow designed for quickly capturing ideas. It can detect instruments, set recording levels and suggest presets using UAD plug-ins.

LUNA 3.0 also adds 4-track stem separation to the free version. This lets users split a stereo mix into separate stems for editing, remixing and sampling. Other new tools include Folder Tracks, a Piano Roll with scale-aware editing, Adaptive Grid, Clip Gain Automation, Strip Silence and Click Track Automation.

The update also adds Record FX for native users, along with mono input support for stereo tracks and new Chord, Key and Time Signature rulers.

The paid LUNA Studio version adds more advanced features. These include 6-track stem separation, Audio-to-MIDI conversion, Lyric Transcription and Chord Extraction. The latter three tools are powered by Moises and can turn recorded audio into MIDI, transcribe vocals into a time-aligned lyric browser and detect chords from audio.

LUNA Studio also includes LUNA Extensions with API, Studer and Ampex console and tape emulations, along with UAD instruments, plug-ins and additional tools such as Celemony Tonalic Elements, Dreamtonics Synthesizer V 2 Core and Topline Vocal Tune.

LUNA 3.0 is available from September 15. LUNA Studio costs $199 USD and is also included with UAD Spark Studio, which costs $19.99 per month or $149.99 per year.
