Dallas experimental electronic duo Starleen have released their debut album ‘Evolution // Rebirth’, out now. The record is a bold, conceptual take on alt electro pop, IDM and dance music, built around a sense of unease that feels very much of its time.

Across the album, glitch-laden breakbeats and corrosive synths wrap around soulful, ethereal vocals, giving the project a distinctly cinematic identity. The duo approach electronic music through a visual lens, letting each track occupy its own psychological space while contributing to a wider exploration of modernity, identity, technological alienation and rebirth.

One standout is ‘Modernity’, which leans into hallucinatory electronic futurism and psychedelic synth movement. The title track has also travelled beyond the music world: the video for lead single ‘Evolution // Rebirth’ has been selected for the Dallas International Film Festival this October. It is not their first brush with film recognition either, as their video for ‘Right Back’ previously won a film festival award in India.

The album follows a run of singles including ‘Let Me Go’, their biggest streaming success to date, and ‘Replica’, which introduced this new chapter of their sound. Starleen first met in a music theory class in high school, and their partnership grew into the 2020 EP ‘Life Is Strange’, followed by ‘To Give In’ in 2022 and a remix project in 2023.

Working entirely from their home studio, the pair keep close control over recording, production and songwriting. That independence shows in the unconventional structures across ‘Evolution // Rebirth’, which draws on darkwave as much as IDM. Listen to the album on Spotify and watch the video for the title track below.
