Home Uncategorized Electronic dance acts taking over the 2016 MTV EMA’s

MTV is one of the most influential platforms in the history of music, having guided generations through the world of music for nearly 3 decades. Although its primary focus is no longer music, but rather teen content such as realities and comedies, it continues to be one of the most prestigious recognitions for musicians and artists worldwide in the form of MTV Video Music Awards.

As of 1994, however, Europe earned its own award show, although the majority of the winners are based outside of the old continent, USA particularly. This year’s edition of the MTV EMA‘s will be hosted in the most influential country in the world of music – The Netherlands. On the 23rd of November 2016, Ahoy Rotterdam will gather together the most important, powerful and dominant performers globally for a breathtaking show, as always.

With electronic music slowly becoming the new 90’s pop music popularity-wise, it comes as no surprise that some of the most highly renown DJs and producers are to be found amongst the nominees. Last year’s Best Electronic act Martin Garrix is at it again with another nomination for the same category, as well as best Best World Stage alongside legends like Duran Duran, Ellie Goulding, Wiz Khalifa and surprisingly – Tomorrowland. Other Best Electronic nominees include Afrojack, Major Lazer, David Guetta and first EDM act to get diamond recognition – Calvin Harris.

The absolute favorite for the Best New category are The Chainsmokers, who recently earned double-platinum with collaborator Halsey, who is competing in Best Push with Martin Garrix’s latest team up Bebe Rexha.

Best Dutch act nominees include promising talents Sam Feldt & Julian Jordan, who have quickly been taking over the electronic world in the past year.

Some of the main favorites for the moon man found of course are Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Coldplay, Adele, The Weeknd, to name a few.

All nominations are up for voting by fans worldwide, while Best Video is the only one to be carefully selected by a specifically-chosen MTV Panel. You can go through the list of nominees and cast your votes for your current favorites here.
