Last month, Ed Sheeran set in motion a record-smashing streak with the double release of the instantly chart-topping “Shape of You” and “Castle on the Hill”. Now, he’s released another double-release with pair of “Shape of You” remixes, one from Stormzy following their duet at the Brit Awards, and the second a re-working from dance giants Major Lazer.
Major Lazer remixes are always worthy of major excitement, given the group’s impressive track record for hits. Their single “Run Up” with Nicki Minaj marked the group’s most recent hit, with over 2 million streams on SoundCloud. And after releases like “Cold Water” with Justin Bieber, and “Lean On,” which became Spotify’s most streamed track ever at the time of its release, this remix is eagerly anticipated.
The original features typically melodic vocals and instrumental work from Sheeran, which Diplo and his Major Lazer pals completely invert for their spin. Adding vocals by Nyla and Kranium, the group mix in their own celebrated trap-inspired sounds to give the production a tropical reggae feel.
Sheeran earlier teased the release ahead of Wednesday’s awards ceremony, stating:
“I’ve got two things dropping on Friday that are pretty interesting. It’s something that I think nobody is expecting. I think it’ll be decent.”
The remix is out now on Spotify so check it out below and let us know your thoughts!
