ZHU drops ‘Genesis’ album
Grammy nominee ZHU, who has been behind hits such as ‘Faded‘ and ‘Paradise Awaits‘, has been teasing his ‘Genesis‘ project since mid-September, and the full album has finally been released in all its glory. Featuring collaborations with the likes of Skrillex, A-Trak and Gallant, this is a soulful and diverse album which ZHU fans are sure to love.
‘Automatic’, together with AlunaGeorge, was the first track from the album that appeared online. The track is funky and atmospheric, with the addition of the blissful saxophone later in the song bringing another dimension to this already impressive production. AlunaGeorge also delivers some sensual vocals.
Next up is ‘As Crazy As It Is‘, a collaboration with A-Trak and Kaznamdi. With heavy reggae influences, the dynamic bass helps culminate in a jazz-like mood with the modern ZHU twist.
The third release from the album comes in the form of ‘Testarossa Music‘ together with Gallant. This track is easy on the ears, provoking a chilled calming sense throughout, with some old school synths combing with the funky beat.
‘Hold Up Wait A Minute‘ sees ZHU team up with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Trombone Shorty, delivering a seriously groovy track that really showcases ZHU’s diverse production skills as he experiments with different genres.
The penultimate track from the album sees ZHU collaborate with Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Daniel Johns to bring us ‘Modern Conversation‘. Featuring some atmospheric chords throughout, we also hear ZHU signature deep house synths and plucks.
The album concludes with ZHU’s long awaited collab with Skrillex and THEY entitled ‘Working For It‘. There really is no creative limit when either ZHU or Skrillex are involved, as they deliver this magical track that features everything from guitars to pianos to pads to ‘modern talking’ synths. ZHU’s save the best for last on this occasion, as he concludes his ‘Genesis’ series with this impressive production.
