Relive Carl Cox’s historic final set at Space Ibiza’s closing party
For the last 15 years, the legend that is Carl Cox has been behind the decks at Space Ibiza, but last night he took to the iconic club’s stage for the final time. And with his departure we also saw the end of Space Ibiza itself, as they shut their doors for the final time after an incredible 27 years as one of Ibiza’s biggest clubs. It was only fitting that Cox headlined the closing party, as he is renowned as one of the most innovative and creative DJ’s of house and techno music. Cox’s departure certainly feels like the end of an era – he has played such a pivotal role in turning Ibiza into the go-to destination for the rich and famous to spend their summers. The party island will definitely not be the same without its king.
Broadcasted live across 50 radio stations, and streamed live on Facebook, the event was really a night to remember, with Cox even delving into the archives and his prestigious box of vinyl tracks, combined with his reputed Traktor setup. Containing everything you’d expect and more from a Carl Cox set, the British icon displayed flawless mixing, impeccable track choice, and created an all-round energetic vibe throughout the set.
Overall, it has been a summer to remember for Cox, who has brought some of the biggest names in dance music with him to perform in Ibiza over the past few months, including Cirez D, Eats Everything, Julio Bashmore, Catz N’ Dogz, Monika Kruse, Matthias Tanzmann, Heidi, Nina Kraviz, Kölsch, and Hot Since 82. It may be the final chapter but it seems as though the techno superstar saved the best for last!
However, even though he is now slowly closing the curtains as a resident of Space Ibiza, we can still look forward to what the award-winning DJ has in store in the future. This dance music legend may be ending his reign in the island but that does not stop him from continuing to party with the rest of the world.
