Calvin Harris premieres new track with Pharrell, Ariana Grande and Young Thug

Popular hit-maker Calvin Harris is back at it again with another huge release. The Scottish DJ who recently released “Slide” with Frank Ocean, had followed up with another collaborative project. This time featuring 10x time winning Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Pharrell Williams, singer Ariana Grande & rapper Young Thug, to create a new funky song called “Heatstroke“.

Pharell, who’s most notable tracks consist of “Happy”, “Get Lucky” with 6x time Grammy Award-winning electronic duo Daft Punk, “Blurred Lines” with rapper T.I and singer Robin Thicke, and “Sing” with Ed Sheeran, brings plenty of experience to the table, in a highly-anticipated collaboration which also features Ariana Grande, who’s released songs such as “Break Free” with Zedd, and “Love Me Harder”, brings a powerful and dynamic, yet smooth soft voice that compliments the track so well.

Known for his ever-popular club hits such as “Drinking From The Bottle” with Tinie Tempah, “Outside” with Ellie Goulding, and “This Is What You Came For” with Rihanna, Calvin Harris has taken a more organic, funky, downtempo approach with his new music.

An infectious, funky track, driven by a plucky bass guitar, and vocals from all 3 singers, Calvin blends a number of different elements together to create a unique, radio hit. The blend of Young Thug’s vocals and the plucky bass is an unorthodox combination, but works nonetheless. The addition of Pharrell’s vocal in the choruses proves to be a nice transition between Young Thug’s rap & Ariana Grande’s soft but powerful voice. However, despite this being a well-produced track, there has been plenty of criticism, with people claiming his newest hit sounds too similar to “Slide”. However, that is up for interpretation.

Nonetheless, this new song possesses all the ingredients for a popular, radio-friendly hit, and is bound to do well. You can purchase Calvin’s new track from iTunes here. You can also stream it below.
