Deadmau5 returns to the radio with BBC Radio 1 residency mix
Synonymous with superstar DJs spinning the decks over their airwaves, BBC Radio 1 was back this past weekend hijacked by the mau5 head wearing Deadmau5. Zimmerman, who has a residency with BBC Radio 1, returned for his ninth residential mix, throwing down a spectacular two hour set. In his latest show, he had fellow Mau5trap signee Tinlicker join him for a guest mix.
After a short introduction and the ever recognizable radio 1 vocal logo, Zimmerman got down to business with Green Velvet’s ‘La La Land’, a Sweet Sixteen Remix by UK duo Prok & Fitch, before really kicking those BPM’s into gear with Basic Soul Unit’s ‘Wallow – Voiski remix’. The resident mix was littered with mammoth tracks from some of the biggest names on the current scene including Cirez D, Alan Fitzpatrick, Luigi Madonna, and Enrico Sangiuliano, dropping one of his most recent releases ‘Blooming Era‘.
As Micha Heyboer and Jordi van Achthoven of Tinlicker stopped by for the guest mix, the pair spun three tracks from their own catalog, selecting ‘Jalapeño’ and ‘Reject’ which are out on Mau5trap, and the ever so elegant collaboration with Misja Helsloot ‘Because You Move Me‘. Working the decks for a wondrous quarter of an hour, the boys returned the radio mix back to Zimmerman.
Throughout the second half of deadmau5’s Radio 1 mix, he continued to display highly consistent and intricate track choices, getting to grips with Nic Fanciulli’s ‘Little L’ featuring Eagles & Butterflies. The intricacy was further complimented by OCULA’s ‘Ingrained’, and synth sensational ‘Sun My Sweet Sun’, a Konstantin Sibold Afro-Tech Remix by Red Axes. The Canadian record producer ended his resident mix with his latest hip-hop inflected production, ‘Legendary’ featuring Manchester based artist Shotty Horroh.
Deadmau5’s residency mix really sets him apart, showing why he is regarded as one of the best in the business. Check out the full mix below.
