Axwell: “Swedish House Mafia is back for life”
Ineffable. If there could ever be a word to try and describe what happened at this year’s Ultra Music Festival, that might be it. For the first time in 5 years, the legendary Swedish House Mafia have returned. The tears were flowing, people’s hearts were glowing, and the energy felt amongst the whole dance music community was nothing but sheer love. It almost seems to be good to be true but it is, the Swedish House Mafia have returned.
Between the hype, rumours, and apprehensiveness that was soaring throughout the EDM world, what occurred on March 25th during Ultra Music Festivals 20th Anniversary was utterly astounding. 45 minutes after David Guetta’s set, everyone held their breath awaiting the next move; Daft Punk, Avicii, SHM, who? As the barrage of lights and bass started to rumble and the breathtaking stage started to take form, the crowd and the world knew what was in store; the Swedish House Mafia. Aptly played, the trio kicked things off with ‘Miami 2 Ibiza‘ in front of a starstruck crowd. As the atmosphere began to take shape, there was a whirlwind of new edits, ID’s, and classics that were all moulded together in flawless fashion.
A rare feat to occur amongst the three members composed of Steve Angello, Axwell, and Sebastian Ingrosso, ‘Don’t You Worry Child‘ was played, pure. After a vortex of unheard tracks mashed and mixed with the sounds of today, the scene turned to darkness as Axwell announced his love for the crowd and celebrating Ultra’s 20th anniversary. Then the rumble came, deep thuds pounded and it would eventually mount into the group’s massive hit ‘One‘. The atmosphere was nothing short of amazing, and the response, magical.
In the words of the man himself, Axwell said: “and this time, Swedish House Mafia is for life!” From all of us here at We Rave You, We Come, We Rave, We Love!
