Alesso returns to progressive roots with stellar Tomorrowland 2018 set

Home Uncategorized Alesso returns to progressive roots with stellar Tomorrowland 2018 set

Of the many Alesso sets that have blown listeners away over the years, few have been as pristine, grandiose, and sentimental as the one he delivered on the Freedom Stage during weekend two of Tomorrowland 2018. The response from fans and listeners around the globe has been truly astonishing. From statements like “the king of progressive house is back” to “best progressive house set of the year”, you really do have to check this set out for yourself.

One of the cornerstones of progressive house is to some degree the absence of  aggressive, bass heavy components that characterize many other sub genres of dance music. The essence of the genre lies in its unique ability to harbour musical tenets like melodies and harmonies to capture powerful emotions. Alesso has always been a pioneer in his ability to make truly next level records, with many so successful they infiltrated the mainstream pop music subculture. There was something quite different about this particular set on the Freedom Stage this past weekend. It seemed that track after track was either an edit or original of some of his finest records to date. Songs like “Cool“, “Years“, “Under Control” and many more were meticulously blended into the mix as one melody gelled smoothly right into the next.

This is the side of Alesso that many fans fell in love with originally. Records that were clean, pure, euphoric, and expressive. The response within the comments section on the video the official Tomorrowland Youtube account has uploaded has been overwhelmingly positive. It seems the tides have turned within the past year or so and more and more artists are rejuvenating the progressive house sound including Nicky Romero, Arty, and Alesso. The Swedish DJ effortlessly breezed through classics like “Fade Into Darkness vs You’ve Got the Love” and his magical mashup that includes Past Malone and “Drowning (Avicii Remix)“.

Enough said, dive into this one of a kind set below!
