Pioneer DJ and prodigious producer Dannic has aligned with Russian native Polina, to release the ultimate summer collaboration,Falling in Love (SOS), with the single being undoubtedly set to ignite the summer vibes in fans worldwide. Released via Spinnin’ Records, the track sky-rocketed up the Beatport Future House chart. After debuting at #47, ‘Falling In Love (SOS)’ peaked at #5 in less than 2 weeks!

Following a whirlwind of releases on world renowned labels, including ‘Coco’s Miracle‘ with Fedde Le Grand CoCo Star (which peaked at #1 on the Beatport Big Room chart) and the growth of his own Fonk imprint, last year, Dannic went on to sign exclusively to Dutch powerhouse label Spinnin Records, as his sound graced the stages of Creamfields, Tomorrowland and Miami Music Week. Amidst all a hectic summer touring schedule, Dannic was kind enough to sit down with We Rave You for an exclusive interview.

2018 has been an enormous year for you! So far, you’ve had 6 original tracks reach the top 10 on Beatport’s Big Room and Future House charts! What are your thoughts on this achievement?

“Thank you! I’ve said this a few times but I really feel like the music I’m releasing now is some of the best I’ve ever worked on. It all feels 100% me in control and I’m sorting of giving the fans and my audiences further afield two sides of me that work together. My tracks on Spinnin’ are still electronic and dance-focused but are tailored for a radio-ready audience, whereas my releases via Fonk can go a little darker and more dancefloor focused.”

Your latest release ‘Falling In Love’ with Polina Griffith was released earlier this month! Tell us about that!

“I’m really happy with this track, it has this classic house feel that takes certain melodies and influence from old school dance tracks but with a Dannic twist. Melodies are super important to me in my releases and Polina’s vocal added this attitude but with a message that is relatable.”

Much like ‘CoCo’s Miracle’, ‘Falling In Love’  has taken a step in the Future/Deep House direction. What has inspired the recent exploration of this new sound?

“I’ve always been in love with house music, in all its different styles. Being able to explore that with Fedde and Coco on our release together, with such a classic, recognizable sample, was a brilliant and fun project that I felt proud to be a part of. ‘Falling In Love’ was another example of this but with me solely on production, but I think you can really feel the classic influence that interests me both as an artist and as a fan of dance music.”

The combination of the pianos and Polina’s vocals creates a large uprising atmosphere, just as intensely as lead synths would in your previous tracks. How have you managed to change the soundset, while maintaining the “Dannic sound”?

“Thanks, I’m glad you think so! Again, I think it’s the same as the above, I think Polina and I complemented each other with our styles rather than overpowering each other’s roles. Groove, melody and a whole lot of house with my added stamp, basically!”

Tracks such as ‘Kontiki’ and ‘Survivors’ had great influences on the electronic music scene and will forever be remembered. How often do you reflect on those collaborations and look at how the scene changed over the years?

“Ah, you are too kind! I’m constantly striving and working hard to move forward to continue on my career. I do reflect as those releases are still a major part of my career and my past as an artists in the EDM scene, to be a part of that initial EDM boom even earlier and working with guys like Hardwell, will always be a big part of my life.”

The number of bedroom producers trying to break into the scene now is higher than ever. Do you believe that “finding your sound” is still important or is producing different genres of music the new way to go?

“I think finding your sound is very important because just following trends will get stale. It can look fake, I would just say to any producer to follow your heart and be confident in your ability.”

What’s next for Dannic in 2018? What are you looking forward to most?

“Very exciting collaborations in the pipeline which we’ll be announcing for you soon! And a lot of festivals – Parookaville, Tomorrowland, Sensation Bangkok, Electrisize Germany, Dance Valley NL and more – hope to see you at a show soon!”
