With London exhaling the melancholy of a summer inspired by positivity, it was – ironically – an Aussie – DJ and producer Hayden James – who provided the capital with some much needed cheer following the realisation that it wasn’t coming home after all.

Taking to Tottenham venue Styx, an open air cabana type space set in the heart of North London, the wood-floored terrace played home to an idyllic evening laced with a huge array of Hayden’s own Australian natives. Soaked with a tropical vibe, buckets hats, Hawaiian shirts and floral printed short shorts were a-plenty as the crowd began to sway gently to the deep house beats of warm up DJs Bearcubs and JaFunk.

With the heat of the scorching 30C+ summer beginning to subside into the sunset, Hayden took to the decks, with his appearance met by rapturous applause as the producer started to spin his atmospheric blend of ODESZA-esque rhythmic house. Best known for his monstrous hit, ‘Something About You’ – used as the soundtrack to Zac Efron’s EDM-focused movie “We Are Your Friends”, with a score curated by the likes of Pete Tong, Alesso and Tchami – it was actually Hayden’s latest track ‘Just Friends’ that was met with the warmest reception.

Pumping a number of his deepest cuts, including ‘Numb’ (30 million Spotify streams and counting), North London was soon transformed into a carnival-inspired haven, with Hayden’s popularity in the UK surging to an all-time high. With further 2018 appearances planned at the likes of Sam Diego’s CRSSD Festival, Hayden James is a producer at the summit of his game right now, producing a unique and refreshing blend of crisp house beats fused with Disclosure-inspired deep and brooding club elements.
