Steve Aoki and BTS receive RIAA’s Gold Certificate for ‘Mic Drop’ (Remix)

Back in February the news came out that South Korean boyband BTS made history, as they became the first Korean pop group to get accredited by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Their first US hit ‘Mic Drop’ ft. Desiigner, remixed by Steve Aoki sold over half a million units, a major achievement for the seven-member K-pop band. The track has been named as one of the best examples in crossing the divide between pop and R&B/hip-hop.

BTS released ‘Mic Drop’ back in September of 2017, but once Steve Aoki got his hands on it a few months later, the track really took off and catapulted to the top of the charts, peaking at No. 28 on the US Hot 100 chart. ‘Mic Drop’ is only the second Korean song to earn RIAA accreditation following the worldwide smash hit ‘Gangnam Style’ by PSY, which went Platinum in 2012 and 2013.

Now, six months after the certification, Steve Aoki brings the major achievement back to everybody’s mind, by posting a video of the newly received RIAA Gold certificate with BTS’ ‘Mic Drop’ (Steve Aoki Remix) on Twitter. Check out Aoki’s tweet about the gold certificate on his wall down below.
