Australian prodigy Throttle brings the ultimate feelgood house gem with ‘Wanderlust’, out now on Spinnin’ Records. Recorded solely by himself, including vocals and production, the track underlines this artist’s unique talent, bringing warm synth pads, strong chords and a beautiful chorus that’s sure to get any crowd into euphoria. Drawing from disco, jazz, hip-hop and funk-he fuses together countless references and eras into a genre he calls ‘dirty-disco’.

First coming to the world’s attention aged just 16 with ‘Inspire’ — his incredible live mash-up of 20 different tracks—his career quickly blossomed and once he began creating original sounds, it was clear that he was no one-trick pony. Fast forward to 2018, and Robbie Bergin is one of the hottest properties in the scene! With a plethora of hit-singles and festival gigs under his belt, Throttle is set to add to his impressive résumé with Wanderlust’.

In celebration of his latest release, Throttle sat down with We Rave You to discuss the track and how it all came about!

‘Wanderlust’ has your signature fun, upbeat sound about it! How did the track come together?

“I made the initial idea for ‘Wanderlust’ in my hotel room in Ibiza. I came up with the vocal hook exploring the streets of old town that morning and built the track from there. The vocal you’re hearing is just one take I recorded into my iPhone. I’m very proud of ‘Wanderlust’, it’s 100% me. The vocal, production, mixing, mastering; everything.”

What was your aim with this track? Did you intend to produce a club-banger or did you merely create what came to mind?

“I make my best music when I set no boundaries. Once I hit a spark of inspiration I’ll hone in on it and let it take me on a ride. That’s the magic of music production for me, is not knowing where you might end up. It’s thrilling for me.”

The final break adds a unique dynamic to the track. Why choose to end the song like this as opposed to another drop?

“I just went with what felt right.”

You’ve been a little quieter this year on the releases front. Now that festival season is over, will you focus more on churning out new tunes or do you have other plans?

“Absolutely. I have so much music in the works, I’m literally bursting with inspiration right now.”

‘Disco Night’ with Kungs thoroughly flaunts your Disco roots. What was it like to work with Kungs on that one?

“I loved every minute of it. Val and I get on so well, we have such similar personalities and I think ‘Disco Night’ really showcases that. ‘Disco Night’ is a ball of fun. 99% of the track was made in studio together in France and soon after he invited me to premiere the track together on the Tomorrowland Mainstage. It was crazy.”

Your single ‘All In’ reached Beatport’s Future House top 10 earlier this year. Do you keep track of your songs’ chart progress or is this not a paramount point of interest to you?

“I use to obsess over numbers and charts but now I try to focus on it less. It’s easy to get lost in metrics and start comparing yourself to others, but it’s unhealthy. ‘All In’ is actually one of my worst performing tracks numbers wise, but is easily the one that has resonated most with my fans. It always receives the biggest reaction at my shows, a fan even cried when I played it last night.”

With summer over in Europe, is a trip back home to Australia at the end of the year on the cards?

“Yes! I’ve been on the road five months now and I’m finally heading home after ADE. Looking forward to some much needed normality and studio time.”
