It’s hard to think of a producer who has achieved as much success in recent years as Calvin Harris. Over the past decade he’s so far had more #1 singles in his native UK than anyone else, and spent nearly a third of 2018 at the top of the charts. He’s still riding high in 2019 and shows no sign of slowing down, as his latest single ‘Giant’ – a collaboration with Rag’n’Bone Man – is currently proving to be a worldwide smash. Now, there’s a remix of ‘Giant’ from progressive house/trance aficionado Audien, who had given the track a flavour of his own unique and instantly lovable sound.
It’s a tricky job from the off though, as it’s fair to say the original track isn’t exactly suited to the big chord stabs and melodic majesty that Audien is known for. ‘Giant’ is out-and-out pop, with a signature horn riff that fits the niche, and really plays up to mainstream tastes. Even Rag’n’Bone Man is about as pop as it gets, and has achieved success with multiple chart-topping hits. It’s therefore an amazing testament to Audien’s talents in the studio that he’s managed to really nail down the basis of the track while draping a good taste of his signature sound over the top. The result is almost tropical house without feeling like it’s simply been dialed in, with the feel-good mantra of the original woven into a progressive banger that is simultaneously radio and club friendly.
