Rank 1 classic ‘Airwave’ turns 17 years old

Back in 2002, the world was a very different place. The word ‘Apple‘ was more commonly associated with fruit than an iPhone, George W Bush was very much the first slice of presidential bread in an Obama sandwich, and a striker named Ronaldo was the best footballer in the world – long before we had heard of his ‘Cristiano‘ namesake.

In the dance music world, trance was still the most popular genre before the boom of EDM, and Rank1 had just released their hit track ‘Airwave’. Acting as pioneers of the Dutch trance sound adopted by acts like Ferry Corsten and Paul van Dyk, Rank1 – made up of Benno de Goeij and Piet Bervoets – scored huge success with this one exactly 17 years ago today.
