With several number one DJ in the world selections to his name, the expectations for Hardwell are just a bit higher than most every time he steps on stage. The Dutch icon seems to feed off this pressure as he continues to raise the bar for DJs and performers when they step on stage.

Returning to arguably the biggest stage of all, Tomorrowland, Hardwell delivered an onslaught of massive hits, edits, and remixes, elevating the atmosphere of the grounds in Boon, Belgium to a frenzied state throughout the set. Early inclusions of David Guetta’s Satisfaction remix and Save The World from the Swedish House Mafia set the tone, letting the massive crowd know that they would be singing along on this Friday night. The pounding energy of the opening few minutes was finally relaxed, giving the audience a bit of a breather as Eminem’s single, Without Me, blared from the speakers before Hardwell sped things up, layering the acapella over a hard-hitting techno rhythm.

While Hardwell’s catalog is full of classic and new hits, built for the global stage that Tomorrowland offers, the producer opted to navigate through many of his peer’s biggest hits, delivering tracks from Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Macklemore, and Kid Cudi. Even when the iconic notes of Spaceman blared from the speakers, it came mashed up with the vocals from the Avicii classic, The Nights.

When Hardwell first dropped his remix of the recent Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding single, Miracle, at Ultra Music back in March, the dance community marveled at his shift to a trance. For Tomorrowland, he took a different approach, aiming for massive singles and sing-a-longs from the crowd. Despite his most recent album, Rebels Never Die, being less than a year old, the producer opted to stay away from the collection as he drew upon the entire dance music scene for his set.
