DJ Tiësto ‘Lethal Industry’: Looking Back at Trance Classic with an iconic journey

In the ever-evolving landscape of trance music, DJ Tiësto emerged as a trailblazer during the late ’90s and early 2000s. His track “Lethal Industry” occupies a special place in the annals of trance history, not only for its musical brilliance but also for its unique journey from obscurity to worldwide recognition.

Before finding its home in DJ Tiësto’s first album, “Lethal Industry” embarked on a curious journey of release. In 1999, the track made its first appearance, with only three copies in existence. These copies were cut by 777 Mastering and released in an Acetate 12″ vinyl format by VC Recordings in the UK.

It wasn’t until 2001 that “Lethal Industry” received its official release. Paired as a B-side with Tiësto’s next song, “Suburban Train,” this initial release was exclusive to the Netherlands.

The year 2002 saw the emergence of the “Lethal Live Mix,” a dynamic combination of remixes by Fred Numf vs. Etienne Overdijk, Mauro Picotto, and Svenson & Gielen. This mix added a new dimension to the track’s sonic journey.

Live Performances and Collaborations

“DJ Tiësto’s inclusion of “Lethal Industry” in live performances, alongside artists like Mason during Tiësto in Concert 2, broke new ground in the electronic music world. Tiësto became the first DJ to blend classical instruments, such as the violin, with a turntable, enriching the live experience for fans.

“Lethal Godd” and “Parade of the Athletes”

Tiësto’s creative genius shone through when he combined “Lethal Industry” with Marco V’s “Godd,” giving birth to “Lethal Godd.” The track garnered immense popularity, in part due to its captivating lyrics. This period also witnessed the release of Tiësto’s third studio album, “Parade of the Athletes,” a tribute to his success at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, featuring “Lethal Industry.”

Remixes and Chart Success

In 2006, DJ Richard Durand’s remix of “Lethal Industry” breathed new life into the track. Tiësto included this remix in his Copenhagen: Elements of Life World Tour, further solidifying its status as a trance anthem. The music video, taken from Tiësto in Concert 2 and featuring Mason, contributed to the song’s chart success.

It’s worth noting that the tune used in “Lethal Industry” was crafted by Alec Empire in 1992, specifically in his tracks “SuEcide” and “Sueside (Junkie Remix 1995).” This underscores the track’s roots in the electronic music realm.
