DIM3NSION opens up about main influences, launching Bemind Records and more: Interview

Blessing fans alike with each of his endeavours, DIM3NSION is well and truly on his way towards global dominance, and we are all for it. Enhancing the trance scene and not only with his presence, this is one interview that you most definitely do not want to miss out on.

Looking to leave his own mark within the electronic dance industry, DIM3NSION (real name Borja Iglesias) is the epitome of an artist that has not only been mastering his craft to the utmost of perfection, but at the same time, has been focusing on each and every detail required in order to achieve an elite status, and constantly feature amongst the legendary acts of our scene. Hailing from Spain, DIM3NSION has been leaving no doubt to the imagination, with each of his releases amassing millions of streams worldwide, and thus, garnering support from some of the biggest names within our community. Releasing under the A State Of Trance label, the trance legend himself Armin van Buuren has been full of praise for this artist to watch, with prime example the constant support of his track ‘Adagio In G Minor’ through each of his live sets. Setting the standards to the highest of levels, we could not be any more thrilled to be joined by the man of the moment, as he opens up about main inspirations and influences, the significance of versatility within the dance scene, the support that he gains on a constant level, his latest single ‘City Of Lights,’ launching his very own imprint in the form of Bemind Records, his goals and aspirations for the near future and so much more.

Hello and thank you for joining us! Could you give us an insight on the main inspirations and influences that led to your chosen career pathway in music?
Hey friends, thank you so much for the interview and for sitting down to talk with me! I remember listening to short advertisements for electronic music parties on my dad’s car radio. The music playing in the background were tracks like Gouryella or ‘Out Of The Blue’ by System F. Those big synth sounds and epic arpeggios made me fall in love with this music immediately. I also have piano skills and I was all the time playing around my keyboard and playing my own melodies so when I discover electronic music and the possibilities to make it on a computer I really wanted to know how to made it. This is where my story starts!

With versatility a key aspect that directly relates to your sound, we would like to know how your style of play came to be, as well as the significance of adapting to the constant changes within the dance scene?
What I like the most from the trance genre is that it draws from a bunch of different elements from other genres so you can easily play records from 124 to 150 bpm and still call it trance. So in the studio I’m always looking for inspiration on new releases, new artists and I’m seeing what’s trending to bring it to my territory and make something different on my own style. I never liked to be stuck on just one type of sound. When I´m djing people can feel this as well. I love to build my sets and make the energy grow gradually, have that travel with the crowd is amazing.

Taking listeners on the most captivating of musical journeys, your latest release ‘City Of Lights’ is one for the books. Could you give us an insight on the main thought process behind the production of this track, as well as the overall message that you have set out to portray?
For this record, I had in mind creating something for a club, easy to remember but emotional, with a nice piano and a vocal. When I heard the vocals for the first time, I immediately wanted to create something and started to play some piano over the vocals. It worked very well, so after that, I started to write the main melody with that kind of future rave lead sound. It was the first melody I came with and it fits perfectly. I found the melody catchy, adding euphoria and positive energy to the drop after the emotional breakdown. The production of the track was very quickly because suddenly everything was working together so well. I love when productions flow like this.

With ‘City Of Lights’ also released under the ASOT imprint, we would like to know the impact that Armin van Buuren’s support has had on your career thus far, with a prime example also being your track ‘Adagio in G Minor,’ that features prominently in each of his live performances?
For me Armin Van Buuren and the ASOT support was key in my career. The work they do for promoting new artists and playing outstanding tracks is fantastic and getting that big support especially at the beginning is an extra push to keep working and a big motivation. But it is still the same feeling for me nowadays. This year is the first one being regular on Armin live sets with ‘Adagio In G Minor’ but also he played some of my other tunes like ‘1000 Miles Away’ or a bootleg I did for ‘The Sound Of Goodbye’. Had an unreal support from him this year, so big thanks to Armin!

Taking over ADE with your guest mix at the ASOT studios, could you provide more info about the new music that had been aired, as well as an overview of your ADE experience?
ADE was definitely a lot of fun for me! Having a guest mix slot on ASOT radio during such a busy time with so many awesome artists in town was amazing. I really appreciated the ASOT team for choosing me. I played my best records of this year’s releases, the premiere of ‘City Of Lights’ and also a new one coming up very soon on my label Bemind Records. The experience was great. I had a lot of meetings with labels, agencies, friends… It’s always great to stay in touch and catch up with friends, keep learning about the business, and find new opportunities… I love the culture of this country.

Congratulations on the launch of your record label, Bemind Records. We would like to know the vision behind your imprint, the type of music that you have set out to discover through supporting up and coming artists, as well as an overview on the accessibility and how producers can get their demos forwarded to your label?
Thank you so much! Bemind Records is a project that has been on my mind for a long time but finally, I think it’s now the right time for launch it and I’m lucky for having the right people working with me.We are looking for great music on a big range of music from melodic techno, progressive to trance, future trance, future rave or techno. The premise of Bemind is to sign the records we feel great from the first listen and that keep in our minds at the end of the day. The spirit of the label is to support new and established artists building a long term relationship. We really want to build a solid stream of releases helping with the ideas, doing remixes, interviews, guest mixes and keeping a close communication with artists which I think is something important to make them feel valued and offer a support for their music. Structuring your label in accordance to the variety of genres that are on offer, could you provide us with a further insight on the sub-labels that go hand to hand with the main imprint, as well as the significance of being able to cater for all type of genres?
We have Bemind Records as the main label which will be focused on music for clubs and festivals. But to cover other range of genres that I normally play on my sets or my weekly radio show ‘DIM3NSION selection’ we have Bemind Deep, focused on deepest sounds and converting ranges from melodic techno to progressive house which also is the perfect place for my alias Benner. And also, we´ve created Bemind Dark, which will be focused on the darker vibes of the electronic dance music, groovy records and techno.

Combining your career with both ghost producing, as well as sharing your work through music services, we would like to know the impact that it will have on yourself moving forward, as well as an overview on what you have set out to achieve by building a community on platforms such as Patreon?
Around three years ago when covid arrived to our lives, I’ve started to focus more on ghost producing services, mixing and mastering but also 1 to 1 sessions teaching others about music production. It’s a great experience for me because of course, it is a way to make a living, but also a great way to be a better producer and keep learning new things because it forced me to go out of my comfort zone. Has made me a much better producer, more completed, productive and much faster than before. Also I´ve started an account on Patreon (patreon.com/dim3nsion) which is a platform where people can subscribe and in exchange you get releases in advance, sample packs of my songs, track walkthrough of my projects, live music production videos and this type of content in order to offer other producers help to make better music showing my tracks and the way I’m making my music.

With 2023 soon coming to an end, could you provide us with any hints of what the future holds for DIM3NSION in terms of new music and upcoming live performances?
I’m very excited about the future because I have a lot of new tunes ready to go, some great collabs and some big remixes. There is no stop for me with the music productions and working hard to make gigs happen again!
