It’s been 12 years since the groundbreaking collaboration between Swedish House Mafia and Knife Party resulted in the explosive track “Antidote.” Released on December 16, 2011, as the second single from Swedish House Mafia’s compilation album, “Until Now,” the song quickly became a dance music anthem, leaving an indelible mark on the electronic music scene.

“Antidote” was a fusion of creative forces, bringing together the iconic Swedish House Mafia trio—Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso—with the Australian electronic music duo Knife Party, consisting of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, who were also members of the renowned drum and bass band Pendulum. The collaboration extended further, featuring uncredited vocals by Swedish American hip hop artist Adam Baptiste, also known as ADL, and co-written by Swedish songwriter Klas Åhlund.

The track’s chart performance was nothing short of impressive, debuting at number four on the UK Singles Chart and claiming the top spot on the UK Dance Chart with first-week sales exceeding 46,000 copies. “Antidote” marked Swedish House Mafia’s fourth consecutive top 10 hit in the UK, solidifying their status as dance music royalty.

Accompanying the electrifying beats was a captivating music video released on December 19, 2011, via YouTube and Vevo. The video depicted a heist in a Japanese strip club, with both clean and explicit versions offering distinct perspectives. The explicit version, filmed in a first-person narrative, featured a gripping storyline involving masked protagonists engaged in a violent and dramatic confrontation, adding an extra layer of intensity to the track.

As “Antidote” celebrates its 12th anniversary, it remains a testament to the power of collaboration in the world of electronic dance music, reminding fans of the electrifying energy that emerges when musical geniuses join forces.
