A nostalgic Mainstage vibe: Hardwell returns to 2013 Big Room roots with his latest release “Oldskool Sound”

Hardwell has recently delivered a lot of tracks to his fans. He has collaborated with Afrojack & Nicky Romero, has put out remix packs of his work, and released Goes Like This with Shortround in early December. Now it seems, even if only for a special edition, that Hardwell returns to Big Room roots with an interesting track. This nostalgia train now definitely takes the listener back to 2013. After all, it’s probably no wonder that a large part of electronic music fans joined in then (at the “EDM era”).

“Let me see you bounce to the Oldskool Sound ???? Launching into 2024 with ‘Oldskool Sound’, a banger that takes us back to his classic Big Room sound ????”, shared Hardwell’s label on their socials.

Although it’s not yet known what this flashback will mean for the future of Dutch DJ/producer Hardwell, it’s certainly interesting. The star DJ’s early career was also defined by this Mainstage sound, which produced tracks such as the hit Spaceman and Apollo. For the latter, he previously teased a follow-up single, which he premiered at Tomorrowland 2018. The cover art for his latest release, “Oldskool Sound”, is also very revealing, as he’s practically gone back to his roots in terms of design.

Oldskool Sound truly takes the listener back to the heyday of EDM. The effects used, the melodic melodies, and of course, the inevitable drop, all bring out the nostalgic vibe of the track. Hardwell used special vocal effects for the song, which he used for the transition before the drops – no question, as this was a defining element of Big Room releases of the era. The label for Oldskool Sound is, of course, Hardwell’s own imprint, Revealed Recordings, which now counts its 942nd release on the main label.

Hardwell’s upcoming tour dates include Don’t Let Daddy Know, Germany’s Ikarus Festival and the earliest is the Untold Dubai Festival in mid-February, for which tickets are now on sale.
