Richie Hawtin invited to IRCAM to perform for second time ever under F.U.S.E.
Richie Hawtin is a British-born, Canadian-raised Techno act who has crafted a career by experimenting with sound on a technical level. In doing so, he has aligned with the vision of IRCAM (the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music) and has thus been invited to perform in the Parisian concert series Electro-Odyssee under his F.U.S.E. moniker, of which he has performed under only once before in his 30-year career.
Richie Hawtin was first recognized by IRCAM when Hawton made comments on the F.U.S.E. project, highlighting the inspiration for the act as deriving from Steve Reich:
“The FUSE Live project is an exploration into live ambient repetitions, creating soundscapes that are both hypnotic and consuming. In the tradition of Steve Reich, the performance uses a reduced set of sounds and parameters, focusing on varying loop points for progressions and movement. The shows unfold in real-time, created for the moment, while within the moment.”
This style of performance intrigued IRCAM who function on a philosophy of fusing artistic qualities of music with advancement in science and technology to push the boundaries of what makes music. These fundamental ideology can be understood through IRCAM’s 3 founding principles: Creation, research, and transmission.
The performance is set to take place during the Electro-Odysee from Monday night at 10:00PM on February 5, 2024, through to Tuesday, February 6, 2024, ending at 8:00PM. The event has several ticket options for those in the area looking to experience the IRCAM festivities, or to simply see Richie Hawtin. General tickets are set at 22€, discounted tickets are selling at 18€, while IRCAM card-holders are charged 14€.
