DJ Cosmin: healing frequencies, AI and a new musical journey [Interview]

Looking to make not just a positive mental impact with his music but a spiritual one too, DJ Cosmin is an artist who has a unique approach when it comes to the creation process of electronic music. With his deep connection to his spirituality and healing frequencies found within his soundscapes, he is looking to allow the listener to go on a journey with him. 

With all this being said, we sat down with DJ Cosmin to find out about his latest release ‘Son Of The Living GOD,’ dive into the unique creation process and find out exactly what healing frequencies are, and how he uses them. 

Talk to us about the inspiration behind your latest release ‘Son Of The Living GOD’. 

“Through countless nights behind the decks, I’ve come to recognise two universal themes that never fail to uplift spirits: friendship and love. However, it was my personal journey that led me to delve deeper into the profound impact of spirituality on our lives. I’ve found that whenever I’m in tune with my spiritual side, whether it’s through prayer, meditation, or simply being present in the moment, I become a better version of myself. My relationships flourish, my sense of fulfilment deepens, and I’m infused with a renewed zest for life. 

With my latest release, ‘Son Of The Living GOD’, I sought to bridge the gap between the pulsating energy of the dance floor and the transcendent experience of connecting with something greater than ourselves. Some may perceive spirituality as incompatible with the exuberance of party culture, but I believe it enriches every aspect of our existence. It imbues our celebrations with a profound sense of peace, joy, and empowerment, elevating the experience to new heights of euphoria.

In essence, ‘Son Of The Living GOD’ is not just a track – it’s a testament to the transformative power of spirituality, seamlessly woven into the fabric of our revelry, reminding us that true fulfilment lies in embracing the divine within ourselves and each other.”

The track also sees you on vocals for the first time in one of your tracks. What was the creative process for this like and why did you decide that now was the right time to dip into the world of vocals?

“Typically, when crafting a track, I collaborate with professional singers to bring my vision to life. However, during the creation process of ‘Son Of The Living GOD,’ something remarkable happened. As I laid down the initial demo vocals, I found myself unexpectedly drawn to the raw emotion in my own voice. It was a moment of pure connection to the music and its message.

In a bold move, I decided to embrace this newfound resonance and re-recorded the vocals myself, infusing each lyric with a deeper sense of empathy and authenticity. It was a transformative experience—one that moved me to tears, signalling to me that this was more than just a song; it was a personal journey unfolding in real-time.

Choosing to release ‘Son Of The Living GOD’ with my own vocals marks a significant milestone in my career—a leap of faith into uncharted territory, yet imbued with a sense of purpose and conviction. It’s a testament to the power of authenticity and the belief that sometimes, the most profound expressions of art come from within.

This is just the beginning of a new chapter, one where I continue to explore the depths of my creativity and share my voice—both figuratively and literally—with the world.”

DJ Cosmin is not just a musician in the electronic sense, either. Skilled on the drums, he combines his use of real-life instruments within his productions to elevate them to the next level.

Aside from using your own vocals, you also use real instruments. How does being a drummer connect with being an electronic producer?

“My story as both a drummer and an electronic producer traces back to my formative years, where I first experimented with merging live drumming with electronic beats on a Roland sequencer machine. This fusion of acoustic and electronic elements opened up a mesmerising rhythmic universe for me to explore. Often, I would lose myself for hours in the studio, meticulously crafting the rhythmic backbone of each track—a process that felt truly magical.

One of my dreams has always been to bring the raw energy of live drumming to the DJ booth, seamlessly integrating it with electronic beats and percussion. The thought of blurring the lines between live performance and DJing ignites my passion for innovation and pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in electronic music.

In addition to live drums, I also incorporate real guitars into my productions, performed by talented musicians like Criss Payne, who happens to be both a close friend and a bandmate in my project QUAAD H. Criss’s mastery of the guitar adds another layer of depth and emotion to my tracks, elevating them to new heights.

I envision a future where live drums and guitars share the stage with electronic beats, creating an electrifying experience that transcends genres and captivates audiences worldwide. It’s a testament to the limitless possibilities when we embrace the fusion of analog and digital realms in music.”

What message are you trying to send to listeners with this latest release?

“With ‘Son Of The Living GOD,’ my aim is to extend a gentle reminder to listeners, especially those who may find solace in excessive alcohol and drugs, that true healing and satisfaction transcend the fleeting highs of the party scene. While the energy of the moment is undeniably uplifting, it’s equally important to consider the aftermath—the moments when the music fades and the lights dim.

My message resonates with the idea of embracing life’s wonders not just during the fleeting hours of a party, but on the enduring journey that follows. It’s about savouring the richness of existence, revelling in the joy of connection, and finding the same satisfaction in every breath we take. Ultimately, it’s a call to prioritise holistic well-being and happiness—like owning a beachside house, where the beauty of life is not just in the momentary rush of the waves, but in the serenity of the horizon that stretches beyond.”

With AI being such a hot topic within the scene right now, we wanted to know exactly what DJ Cosmin thought of it, too.

Recently, the rising popularity of AI has changed the game a bit. What are your thoughts of AI in the creative space? 

“The advancements in AI technology have undeniably opened up new avenues for creativity, offering a wealth of tools and resources to artists across various fields. While AI can be a valuable ally in overcoming creative blocks and enhancing productivity, the true measure of its impact lies in the quality and authenticity of the final product. In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, there’s a growing emphasis on infusing music with genuine emotion and human connection. AI can aid in this process by providing insights and suggestions, but it’s the artist’s ability to imbue their work with empathy and depth of feeling that truly resonates with audiences. 

I believe there’s a shift towards a more handcrafted approach to music production—a return to the roots where imperfections are celebrated as part of the artistic process. This fusion of human creativity with cutting-edge technology paves the way for a new era of innovation and originality in dance music. For me personally, AI serves as a catalyst for self-exploration and musical versatility, allowing me to dive deeper into my own creativity while staying true to my versatile style. I’m excited to witness the convergence of traditional craftsmanship with futuristic electronics, as we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in music production. Living in these times of endless possibilities is truly exciting, and I’m eager to embrace all the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Where do you see the future of AI and creativity going?

“In contemplating the future of AI and creativity, I see it just like a knife, which can be used to prepare a nourishing meal or inflict harm, AI’s impact on creativity depends on how we choose to utilise it.

In the realm of creativity, AI is already distinguishing the true innovators from the rest, setting a higher standard for artistic expression. It’s no longer sufficient to simply produce content; artists must demonstrate their ability to craft compelling narratives, produce high-quality work, connect with audiences on a profound level but most of all to create a heartfelt piece of music. As creators, it’s our responsibility to harness the power of AI in a positive manner—to inspire, entertain, and uplift others. Now it really separates the men from the boys.”

Healing frequencies are something that DJ Cosmin lives by, but what exactly are they? He explains below.

You’ve stated that you’re using ‘healing frequencies’ in your music. Can you explain more about what this is and how you use it? 

“Incorporating healing frequencies into my music is a deeply personal and transformative practice that goes beyond the capabilities of AI. Many people are familiar with the potential benefits of solfeggio frequencies, each associated with specific healing properties. For example, 174 Hz is renowned for its ability to alleviate physical pain and stress, while 285 Hz facilitates restoration and healing. In my compositions, I explore the power of nine healing frequencies, each carefully selected to enhance the listener’s well-being.

The inspiration for integrating healing frequencies into my music struck me unexpectedly, much like the piercing cry of my son one day. He screamed a very high tone as he was 2 years old. I could not understand why my ears were so negatively affected by that tone. So I started to submerge into the realm of frequencies, I discovered the profound impact they can have on our mental, emotional, and spiritual states.

In my latest single, ‘Son Of The Living GOD,’ I overemphasised a frequency of 639 Hz to promote mental balance and harmony. It’s a practice that I’m deeply passionate about, and I’ve even shared insights into it through platforms like TikTok, with plans to dive deeper in the future. For me, exploring the intricacies of healing frequencies is one of the most captivating pursuits, second only to my devotion to family, friends and spirituality. It’s a testament to the profound connection between sound, frequency, and the human experience.”

How do you think music can help people spiritually? 

“Just as a house requires a blueprint for construction, I believe music serves as a blueprint for our spiritual journey—a guiding force that illuminates our path and enriches our understanding of the universe.

While the connection between soft music and spirituality may be readily apparent, I’m intrigued by the subtle nuances where this connection is less overt. I seek to infuse dance music with a deeper spiritual resonance right there where some people may think it is not possible. What can be better than this: Party with GOD on your side!

 My hope is that by embracing spirituality in my music, I inspire fellow producers and DJs to explore this uncharted territory, forging a new trend that resonates with audiences on a soulful level. Ultimately, music has the power to uplift, enlighten, and unite us, transcending language and culture to touch the very core of our being.”
