Home Events Grimes faces major technical difficulties during Coachella Weekend 1 set

I will do more work between coachellas so next week will prob be even better,” said Grimes ahead of her Weekend 1 set.

Performing on the iconic Sahara stage at Coachella this year, Grimes had planned a treat for fans which involved new edits, new tracks and even a mechanical spider. Starting off strong and making a bold entrance on a robot contraption, the set ended up being cut short due to issues.

The technical difficulties started when her tracks began to play at twice the usual speed, which she then tried to fix herself on stage, saying to the crowd: “Don’t judge me for being bad at calculating things.” Because she couldn’t get the BPM of the tracks right, she then also messed up with some transitions and eventually abandoned plans to start playing new IDs instead. Of course, everyone took to the internet to share their thoughts on this with one Reddit user by the name of flaiad calling her “Very, very unprepared and unprofessional” and another by the name of joesrar saying “I had high expectations but that’s the most grimes thing ever I guess.”

Ahead of her set at Coachella, she took to X to state that she would do some more work between weekends and that next weekend will ‘prob be even better,’ although she could not have predicted what would happen. She also stated “Ok I’m playing a lot of new stuff tonight and we are literally still fixing vocal mixes and stuff – a lot of this isn’t finished, so if there’s weird moments or bad vocals this is why!

With her set being cut short this weekend, let’s hope Grimes has a more smooth sailing set next weekend.
