Home Featured Martin Garrix involved in a confusing controversy during his show in China

The 4 times number 1 DJ in the world, Martin Garrix, was accused of not wanting to participate in a joint performance with Chinese singer Huang Zitao, a.k.a Tao, during the F1 China Grand Prix music festival.

Chinese singer Huang Zitao, also known as Tao, voiced his discontent after Martin Garrix allegedly didn’t want to share the stage with him during the F1 China Grand Prix festivity. In a backstage livestream which subsequently became viral on Chinese social media, Tao lashed out at the Dutch superstar, blaming him for not showing up to the show rehearsals and then for taking the stage alone at what was supposed to be the time of their supposed joint performance. When Tao took the stage alone, later on, he was still determined to keep firing shots toward Martin Garrix in a series of swears and harsh criticism.

Martin Garrix swiftly responded to the accusations, filming a video of his own in which he explained the situation, albeit much more calmly than Tao. He said that the organizers planned for them to take the stage individually presenting an opportunity for Tao to join Martin during his outro when one of his songs was supposed to be playing. Martin Garrix revealed that “he [Tao] was hiding in the toilets in the dressing room area to the point that there’s music playing, you can hear his voice on the speaker, but he’s not there, he’s not holding a microphone.” He also denied his lack of presence at the show rehearsals, stating that he wasn’t even in China when they took place.

Since the 2 respective artists posted their reactions on social media, the festival issued a statement of their own where it clearly says that due to their own communication errors, a misunderstanding arose from both artists’ side, leading to the tense situation between Martin Garrix and Tao. The festival also issued an apology, promising that such incidents will not occur in the future. You can read the whole statement here.
