Home Music House Groove Armada unveils ‘Free Jam’ EP under new Defected deal: Listen

Groove Armada has announced “Free Jam EP,” marking the start of a long-term collaboration with Defected Records. This partnership includes releases on Defected and Glitterbox Recordings, beginning with this EP on Defected’s sub-label DFTD, which drops on May 24th, 2024.

Moreover, Groove Armada will headline Defected and Glitterbox’s global events, performing at Defected at Ushuaïa and Glitterbox at Hï, ensuring an electrifying party atmosphere throughout the summer.

The “Free Jam EP” is the first product of this collaboration, featuring two tracks that showcase Groove Armada’s dancefloor expertise. The title track, with soulful vocals from Kathy Brown, blends seamlessly with the duo’s distinctive percussion. Additionally, “New Kind Of Drama” delivers high-energy club vibes, with bold synths and Slarta John’s raw, carnival-inspired vocals.

Andy Cato of Groove Armada described the EP’s creation, saying, “‘Free Jam’ emerged from a Byron Bay hotel room after a night of house music euphoria. Specifically, it’s a nod to our early days of free parties.” He further added, “‘New Kind of Drama’ has been our DJ secret for over a decade, capturing the chaos of late-night Brick Lane sessions. Consequently, it’s great to return to our house roots with Defected, a label that embodies the spirit of original house parties.”

Groove Armada’s chart-topping success with singles like “At The River,” “I See You Baby,” and “Superstylin’” underscores their impact on UK electronic music. Their management noted the synergy with Defected comes at a perfect time as they continue to DJ worldwide, celebrating their sound’s heritage.

Furthermore, Defected Records CEO Wez Saunders praised Groove Armada’s ability to thrive across house and disco sub-genres. “Tom and Andy have consistently been at the top of their game, and we’re excited to work with them and release more fantastic music.”

In conclusion, “Free Jam EP” is available now via DFTD.
