Seven years ago, on May 9, 2017, the world bid farewell to Robert Miles, born Roberto Concina on November 3, 1969, in Fleurier, Switzerland. Renowned as an Italian record producer, composer, musician, and DJ, Miles left an indelible mark on the music industry.

From his early days in Friuli, Italy, Miles exhibited a remarkable talent for the piano. By 1984, he was already entrenched in the music scene. Venturing into DJing, he graced the stages of Italian clubs and private radio networks. In 1990, he took a bold step, investing his savings to establish a recording studio and a pirate radio station.

Miles’ breakthrough came in 1994 with his trance and chill-out masterpiece, “Children.” Initially a slow burner, the single soared to unprecedented heights following its official release in 1995, selling over 5 million copies worldwide. Its success earned Miles numerous accolades, including platinum records and a Brit Award for International Breakthrough Act in 1997.

Following the triumph of “Children,” Miles continued to captivate audiences with hits like “Fable” and “One and One.” His sophomore album, “Dreamland,” released in 1996, cemented his status as a musical luminary.

In the years that followed, Robert Miles explored new avenues, releasing albums like “23am” and “Organik,” showcasing his versatility across genres. His collaborations with artists like Trilok Gurtu and Nina Miranda added depth to his repertoire.

Beyond music, Miles ventured into radio, founding Open Lab, a platform converging culture, arts, media, and technology. Metastatic cancer in Ibiza, Spain, cut short his life tragically, where he passed away at the age of 47.

Though Miles may have left this world, his legacy endures through his timeless music and visionary endeavors. Seven years on, his influence resonates, a testament to his enduring spirit and creative genius.
